1. Good Coverage:
Every standard paint which has a good quality must have a good a good
coverage. This is also known as HIDDEN POWER in the coating industries. It is this coverage that enables a substrate to wear a new look after been coated with a paint solution. But absence good coverage results to repeated coatings which in turn consume more paints than normal.

2. No Colour Separations:
Colour separation is hardly noticed in a
good quality paint. This is sometimes found in a paint while applying paint on
a substrate. Some tiny lines of sharp pigment are seen at close studying of an
applied paint.
3.
Fast Dry Rate:
A good paint must not take many hours before drying after application. Maximum of two hours should ne enough for paint to dry properly. But in a situation whereby a paint is taking hours to dry, this indicates that there is little or no drying agent introduced into the paint during its production.

4.
Swift Shift In Colour:
Noticeable among some painted substrates
after drying is a change in colour. A typical example is seen after painting a
deep blue colour, at the point of drying, it turns to appear as sky blue in
colour. A high quality paint will have little or no shift in colour after
drying.
5.
Absence of Cracking:
A good paint does not crack when dried. If a
sample is applied on a piece of paper and bent after it has dried up, it is not
expected to crack or break.
6.
Homogeneous Mixture:
Every high quality paint must have
homogeneous mixture. This is one of the qualities of which ensures that all the
components of a paint are thoroughly mixed together. Paints that are
homogeneously mixed always have very high adhesion thereby ensuring that the
paint doesn’t peel off the substrate when dried.
7. Durability (Life Span):
A high quality paint must retain its quality
for the period of at least 5 years for interior walls and 3 years for exterior
coatings. Generally, Gloss / Oil paints have higher glossy level. Absence of
glossy appearance in paint shows an evident of low quality of paint.
